Maintaining Your Floorcoverings

Regular maintenance is the key to keeping your floor coverings looking beautiful, performing well, and lasting for years to come. Proper care not only enhances the appearance of your floors but also protects your investment by preventing premature wear, staining, and damage. Whether you have hardwood, carpet, vinyl, laminate, tile, or stone, consistent cleaning and mindful upkeep help preserve the quality, comfort, and value of your flooring—making your home or business look its best every day.

Here are some tips for extending the beauty and performance of your floors. Always refer to the manufactures website for care instructions and approved cleaners.

Sheet Vinyl   Keep your sheet vinyl floors looking their best by sweeping or vacuuming regularly—without a beater bar—to remove dirt and grit. Wipe up spills as soon as they happen. For deeper cleaning, use a damp mop with a pH-neutral or non-abrasive vinyl cleaner, or a mild detergent and water solution, followed by a clean water rinse. Protect your floors by lifting heavy furniture (never dragging it) and using mats with non-rubber backing at entryways to prevent scratches and discoloration. Protect surfaces by placing felt or similar pads under the legs of furniture.

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) & Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT)Sweep or dust mop regularly to remove dirt and debris, and wipe up spills promptly. For spot cleaning, use a pH-balanced vinyl floor cleaner. Avoid harsh or abrasive products, including ammonia, vinegar-based solutions, or any cleaner containing strong chemicals that may damage the surface. Attach felt pads to furniture legs to prevent scratching.

Laminate | Maintain your laminate floors by sweeping, dusting, or vacuuming regularly with a hard surface floor attachment. Use only cleaning products designed specifically for laminate flooring. Do not wet mop or wash with soap, water, oil-soap detergents, or any other liquid cleaners. Avoid steel wool, abrasive pads, and harsh ammoniated or chlorinated cleaners that could damage the surface. Protect surfaces by placing felt or similar pads under the legs of furniture.

Hardwood Sweep or vacuum often to remove dirt and grit, then dry mop with a recommended hardwood cleaner. Place walk-off mats at entrances to collect dirt and moisture, and attach felt pads to furniture legs to prevent scratching. Wipe up spills immediately using a soft cloth to keep your floors in top condition.

CarpetRegular vacuuming prevents dirt and dust from settling deep into the carpet fibers. Always treat spills and spots right away—blot gently, never rub or scrub, as this can damage the pile. Use recommended carpet cleaning products, and remember that while many carpets are stain-resistant, no carpet is completely stain-proof.

Ceramic Tile & Stone | Use protective mats in high-traffic and pivot areas, such as in front of sinks and stoves, to reduce wear. Protect tile and stone surfaces by placing felt or similar pads under the legs of furniture made from metal, wood, or plastic. These simple steps will help extend the life and beauty of your flooring.
